Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Guillermo (http://www.guillermo.co.uk) is a versatile vocalist and a skilled voice teacher and group facilitator. His work is largely informed by his yoga practice, inspired by change-maker and shaman Judith Seelig (www.judithseelig.com).
Besides his performing career as a soloist and his participation in bands such as Tango Siempre (www.tangomusic.co.uk) and Rioplatenses singing Argentine tango and folklore, Guillermo devotes his energy to inspiring individuals and groups of people to listen, breath freely, sing the sound of their essential nature and be fully present, honest and open.
The one-to one lessons and collective singing workshops he offers combine gentle movement, stretches and sensory awareness (informed by Yoga, Feldenkrais method and other disciplines), with ‘sounding’ (using the voice to make sounds that are not necessarily ‘singing’) and diverse singing exercises and explorations (drawing from functional pedagogy of the voice, speech-level voicework, anthropological singing, classical vocal technique). Rhythm, silence and improvisation are also present in most of the sessions, apart from the indispensable sense of humour!
Guillermo moved to the UK in 2000 after more than 10 years teaching in Buenos Aires, where he grew his reputation as a jazz and Latin vocalist and helped shape a generation of popular singers. Now based in London, he runs weekly singing workshops and teaches one-to one from his London studio, and offers masterclasses throughout Europe. He’s been a faculty member of the Global Music Foundation (www.globalmusicfoundation.org)since 2005, taking part as a voice coach and workshop leader in their European music seminars.
Guillermo didn’t find tango, tango found him after he moved to Europe. After his successful collaboration with Gilad Atzmon and the Orient House Ensemble (their album ‘Muzik” won the BBC jazz awards), he has now become one of the leading voices of tango in the UK, working regularly with various UK and Europe-based tango bands.
Since his arrival in the UK, Guillermo immersed himself in the melting pot of European, African and Asian influences that define the musical landscape of the country. He has studied Indian Vocals with Doctor P Chaudhry and the renowned Ajoy Chakraborty. In 2007 he has achieved a Masters degree with distinction in Ethnomusicology (Middle Eastern music, Arabic singing with voice and oud master Abdul Salam Kheir) at SOAS (University of London).
